THE LOVE ORGANS SERIES

A STORY WITH A HAPPY ENDING

In the 2015 my sister became really sick and all of a sudden her kidneys shut down completely. After struggling for nearly a year in the hospital we began to question whether she would survive. Luckily on July 27th, 2015, I was able to donate a kidney to a stranger in Georgia and another stranger from Minnesota donated a kidney to my sister. I didn't even know organ exchange programs were available but they are! Naturally I was nervous about all the things that could go wrong with trading organs with a total stranger and shipping them across the country but the results were nothing short of magic.

My sister and I are both happy and healthy, and after receiving a letter from my sister's donor we learned that he is doing well too.

After my recovery I set out to make this series of paintings each one illustrating a kidney in one way or another. The purpose of this series was to give them as gifts to the people that made my sister's transplant possible. I wanted to thank my sister's donor, our doctors, our social worker, the lab technicians, the nurses, and all of the other heroes that contributed to her survival.

To my sister's donor I just want to say, I will forever be grateful for your kindness and generosity. You are living proof that miracles come true.
